The current agro-export model is not neutral on the territory, the people or the activities that are developed. It conceives the aggressive transformation of the environment as a mercantile object of agro-food economic exploitation with a defining characteristic: it transforms and exploits the environment as a means detached from the social and supply needs of a territory, from its population and from the environmental, economic and labour impacts that food mercantilism generates on a local and global scale.
The impacts of agro-export extractivism on the social rights of individuals and peoples to a sustainable, sufficient, universal and diversified production, distribution and coverage of a basic human need such as food is part of one of the strategic areas of work, research and analysis of public policies of the Observatory DESC in the coming years.
